What is a "Domain Name"?

Every computer on the Internet has a name and number attached to it. The number is an IP address and the name is a human friendly version of the number. Names are registered centrally in each country. International names are registered in the US. As the Internet becomes a global commercial service the value of having names registered is immense. However, confusion has reigned and many businesses have been caught out by others registering their names.

If you register a domain name in any country you are effectively protected against anyone else registering the same name.

How do I register one?

NetNames is an International Internet Name Registry. Through the NetNames service you can register your company, product and trading names in countries throughout the world. As the Internet becomes a part of every company’s trading strategy the importance of having Internet names registered in every country where you do business is vital.

You have your name protected anyway ... or do you?

The law surrounding the ownership of names on the Internet is confused and liable to change from country to country. However, possession is nine tenths of the law. Registration of a name in a country gives you the technical and practical right to use the name. Owning a name that someone has already registered as an Internet name may give you no rights at all.

How does it work?

If you want to register a name in any country, either phone Industry Connect for a simple registration or fill in our form. We then initiate the registration process. We have built a unique automated registration system that allows us to submit applications for registration to the authorities across the world. We process the application and track its progress. We deal with any problems and chase up any delays. We keep you fully informed of progress and you’ll receive a copy of all relevant documentation.

How much does it cost?

A single name in a country costs £150 + VAT and any country specific local registration charges. If you want a quote for multiple registrations we'll give you an immediate price. You can even order there and then. We offer reductions for orders of more than five names and names in more than one country.

Some names are now subject to an administration charge levied by the ruling body for the country.

E-mail Forwarding

As part of the service, should clients already have an exising subscription to an Internet Service Provider. We can redirect mail from the domain name you register to your personal mailbox at your ISP.

(eg. Web site: www.yourname.co.uk, Mail address: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ----> forwarded to ISP mailbox automatically.)

The DNS option

As part of our service we offer a primary and secondary domain name service. The existence of your name in a Primary and Secondary DNS is a requirement of registration in most countries. You may well wish to use your own corporate DNS servers and you should indicate this on the form. If you do, you must ensure that the entries are made before you submit an order. If you wish to use the NetNames DNS service please indicate this on the form.

What am I buying?

You are not buying the name or a guarantee of a name. We are not in control of the naming process in any country. NetNames is a service that will attempt to register your desired names in the countries of your choice. We cannot ever guarantee that you will get the name of our choice or even any name. We will always attempt to make as much information available to you as possible to help you make your choice. Industry Connect will not be responsible in any way for failure to register any name.

Payment options

We will start the registration process on receipt of a Company Purchase Order or payment. We accept company and personal cheques made payable to Industry Connect Limited which must be received before the registration will commence. Pro forma invoices can be issued on request.
